Description

The Sima Cogollillo is located in Sierra Elvira, before reaching the Ermita de los Tres Juanes, in Granada, named for its speleothems and its geology similar to the Cueva de la Lechugilla in New Mexico, U.S.A. A very small cave but with a charm that will leave you with a unique feeling, the fault that passes through its lower part makes the Sima Cogollillo is very hot, only being able to perform in winter, as it has about 30 ° C temperature and 80% humidity.
We will meet in Granada city and we will travel 15 minutes by car, we will go to Sierra Elvira, this cavity has a ramp at the entrance of 50 meters, with several destrepes, the good thing is that the approach from the cars is 40 meters away, this way we will enjoy inside the cave longer. We will place the rope so that dragging the ass, we will arrive at what we call the most interesting part of the cave, with a duration that will depend on the desire that you have of your initiation to the Speleology in Granada.
The geological activity of Cogollillo is impressive. Its speleothems are unique, as there are no two caves or chasms alike in the world.
A narrow shaft of the Sima Cogollillo, through which we will descend with descenders, through a vertical crack 12 metres long. The first room of the shaft is spectacular, we have flags, eccentrics, columns, stalactites and stalagmites, if diversity in speleothems make a cave as small as the Cogollillo acquires an importance among the speleology in initiation a very demanded product.

Its limestone waterfalls are very similar to church organs. We will carry plenty of isotonic drinks as we have to constantly hydrate ourselves from the heat (as they say in Graná).
