Description

On this tour you will visit a less touristic valley and a medieval village, while understanding how the rural landscape has evolved hand in hand with the local history. We will have lunch in a genuine Basque farmhouse and cider house overlooking the sea and the mountains.

Visit the town of Zestoa and discover its history and that of the Basque Country.

Walk through the Urola River valley and its wonderful rural landscape.

Enjoy a cider tasting and local products in an authentic family-run cider house with sea and mountain views.

After catching the bus in San Sebastian, we will start this trail in the town of Zestoa, where we will walk through the old town, its streets and understand the relationship between history, landscape and nature. Then, we will continue along the Urola river on a very easy trail with incredible views and admiring the rural landscape of the area. After a steep incline to reach the neighbourhood of Ibañarrieta and as a reward for our effort, we will visit my favourite Sagardotegi (cider house), Ekain.

At the cider house you will learn how they make their cider, juice and vinegar in a more environmentally responsible way. In the cider house we will taste typical dishes such as cod omelette and sheep's cheese with quince jelly. In the cider house you can buy their products directly and without intermediaries.

We will finish this experience with a one hour tour to the medieval village of Zumaia, where I will be happy to suggest places to eat or stay, or show you how to get back to your hotel after this experience.
