This tour is a perfect complement to the visit of the Alhambra, as it allows us to see how Arab and Christian culture intermingle in the city and how beautiful Granada is from the other side.
We will start our walk in the Albaicín (also called Albayzín, from the Arabic "al-bayyāzīn"), which is undoubtedly the most charming and beautiful neighbourhood in the whole city.
Many civilisations have inhabited this neighbourhood since ancient times: first the Iberians, followed by the Romans, Visigoths and Arabs who inhabited the neighbourhood until the arrival of the Christians after the conquest of the city in 1492.
As we walk with our private guide through its labyrinthine narrow streets and discover its cisterns, Carmenes and ancient mosques which are now Mudejar churches, we will understand why it was declared a World Heritage Site in 1994 by UNESCO, 10 years after the Alhambra.
We will then walk to Sacromonte, a neighbourhood that once had a great religious significance for the city (hence its name) and once had more than 1,200 crosses. Nowadays it is known worldwide for its flamenco caves, which are the essence of gypsy life and of Granada's zambra, flamenco and "jondo" singing.
This will in fact be the finishing touch to our experience: We will enjoy a live flamenco show! A "zambra" from Granada with dancing, singing and guitar. A real luxury which also includes a drink during the performance and transport back to the hotel by minibus.
History, folklore, religion, landscape, spectacle...all great ingredients to make this visit a magnificent experience not to be missed!
