Discover Italica, the first Roman city in Hispania, on a 4-hour tour from Seville. Explore the city's ruins, theatre and amphitheatre. Italica is the first authentic Roman city in Spain, located 15 minutes from Seville, in the town of Santiponce. It was founded in 206 BC by the Roman general Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus. The city was the birthplace of two Roman emperors: Trajan and Hadrian. Now called the Conjunto Arqueológico de Itálica, visitors today can enjoy walking through the ancient streets and exploring the ruins of the houses and public buildings. The main attraction is the amphitheatre, which had a capacity of 25,000 people, making it the third largest in the Roman Empire. Other places of interest are the mosaic pavements, Traianeum, the sculptures of Diana, Venus and Trajan, the public baths and the Roman theatre partly reconstructed in Santiponce. Thanks to the fact that none of the following civilisations settled on the ruins of Italica it is a fairly well preserved city and well worth a visit.
In this Roman city, precisely in its amphitheatre, part of the scenes of the seventh season of the famous series Game of Thrones were filmed. After this unforgettable experience we will cross Seville by bus, where you can see the most emblematic monuments of the city: the Triana Bridge, the Calle Betis, the Plaza de Toros and the Torre del Oro.
